Hard to believe we have been at this a whole month. Harder to believe there is at least another month and a half to go. But Jo Ann is doing great, making her allotted mileage, or more, every day.
There was only one thing particularly special culinary wise this week. Saturday Jo Ann ran into a Father-Daughter team that was cycling from Gainesville FL to Washington State . She mentioned they seemed to have been on the road a week or more living on what sounded like pretty meager fair to me. So when we wound up at the same campground Sunday, we invited them to a “home cooked meal” and they jumped at the chance. They graciously supplied the salad. I made “Chicken Junk”, an old family standby (although that is usually Turkey Junk) that is really a stroganoff, and Asparagus. In the rush to fix a four burner meal on a two burner stove I did not get a photograph of the meal. Which is really disappointing since we used the table cloth and real (plastic) plates. Dr Bob did get one photograph of the meal preparation that he posted on his blog (Doctor Bob's Bike Blog). Otherwise it was our regular fare, although I finally did get butter and (white) milk for the Macaroni and Cheese.
As Jo Ann mentioned, in her post for Day 32, we stopped by the American Red Cross Disaster Maintenance Center on Friday. This is one of two facilities where the American Red Cross stores and maintains the technology equipment used for disaster responses anywhere in the country. I visited friends and co-workers; got some feedback (plus new requirements and deadlines) for some of the projects I am on, and had a great picnic. Meanwhile Jo Ann spent the day on a shopping spree at the local bicycle shop and practically came back with a new bike (she did call and ask if she could buy one that was on sale).
We took an extra rest day, and night in a hotel, (Saturday) so we could finalize our taxes and get them in the mail. Also so we would have time to hit one of my favorite Bar-B-Q restaurants, Rudy’s for the “worst bar-b-q in Texas ” (their claim, not mine), and to pickup a quart of their BBQ “Sause”. The route for Sunday passes close to Driftwood TX , home to another favorite Bar-B-Q restaurant, Salt Lick, so I hope we can get dinner there.
