Day 37 April 6, 2011 Wednesday Total Mileage: 1560 Today: 50 miles

This morning was a bit chilly and breeze.  I saw a gang of turkeys, as I was riding out of Lost Maples Texas State Park.

The big surprise this morning at about 5 miles out was David joining me to ride up one of the biggest climbs I’ve done so far.  His ulterior motive was to ride back down that same hill.  His top speed was 35 mph, braking for some of the curves… all this in his PJs!  Which he wore so he could say he does "hills like these before breakfast..."

The big hill!

View from the top

Lunch was catered in the shade of a Christmas tree at 1,500 feet elevation.

Frio Rio (Fire River) elevation 1483 ft

We are spending the night outside of Camp Wood, Texas, population 607;1,457 feet elevation.

Wes Cooksey County Park and Lake – “The best kept secret in Texas”.  We camped right on the Nueces River, the water was beautiful and clear and there were not very many mosquitoes.

Swimming at the Low Head Dam?  NOT!

  1. I bet it felt good to get to the top of that hill, and the view was nice as an added bonus!

  2. I would have never pegged David as a checkered/plaid PJ kind of guy. What has been seen cannot be unseen! :-)
